The National Mining Association (NMA) has called for the passing of the US-Chile tax treaty, which had been pending ratification for more than a decade.

NMA president and CEO Rich Nolan said the prompt ratification of the treaty would protect US investment in Chile, which is a key mining jurisdiction.

He was commenting this week on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s favourable vote to move the US-Chilean Tax Treaty to the full Senate for consideration. The treaty, first signed in February 2010, has been pending ever since.

“This treaty has been awaiting ratification for more than a decade – we must move forward to ensure the success of US companies that invest in Chile and to level the playing field with their foreign competitors."
