Capital equipment supplier New Holland Construction launched its new series of B100C backhoe loader trucks – which are capable of quick and efficient marble cutting – in April.

The company states that Italy-based marble-cutting machine manufacturer Benetti Macchine developed the B100C series and that each truck is fitted with a chain cutter, the CST 965.

Benetti Macchine owner Fererico Benetti says the company worked with New Holland Construction’s engineering department when developing the machine, which he says offers a new and simple way of cutting.

“The B100C was created to meet the needs of our customers, who know better than anyone else how to improve their business and what machines are required to best achieve it. What they were missing until now was a machine that could operate autonomously in a quarry and cut blocks of marble instantly. To accommodate this requirement, we explored the idea of combining cutting equipment with a backhoe loader,” Benetti explains.

The company believes New Holland was the ideal partner to help develop this type of product, owing to the performance and reliability of New Holland’s backhoe loaders.

Benetti mentions that the B100C’s prototype underwent several months of testing at their marble quarries, in Carrara, Italy, where expert operators in marble extraction made the machine work at full speed and for long periods.

“The New Holland B100C backhoe loader passed with flying colours and made its official debut at the Marmomacc trade fair in September 2013,” he elaborates.

Market Reception
New Holland reports that the B100C has enjoyed positive market reception, adding that one of its first buyers was mining aggregates and limestone solutions provider Grupo Frazão.

Grupo Frazão MD Antonio Alberto Frazão explains that his company wants to increase its quarry producti- vity and is convinced that the B100C will help him achieve this goal.

The backhoe loader is currently working at Grupo Frazão’s limestone quarry in Pé da Pedreira, north of Lisbon, Portugal, and is used to cut marble to sizes suitable for truck transportation.

Frazão states that the company has benefited from the machine’s high speed and autonomy of movement. “I am particularly impressed by the fact that cutting the marble does not require water, which makes the operation much simpler and [ensures it can] be performed autonomously,” he says.

New Holland further reports that the prototype of the backhoe loader for marble cutting has also been working for several months at one of Benetti’s long-standing customers, natural stone transformation solutions provider Solancis.

“We were convinced by the backhoe loader because of its great versatility and reduced overheads,” explains Solancis MD Samuel Costa Delgado, who adds that the prototype is currently working in the Évora de Alcobaça quarry, in the district of Leira, 80 km north of Lisbon.

“It cuts marble blocks up to three metres high and can move around inside the quarry without wires or tracks. Owing to this machine, productivity has increased considerably,” adds Delgado.

Product Overview
The B100C boasts a 3.4 ℓ engine that meets the US Environmental Protection Agency’s strict Tier IV interim carbon-emission standards. “The engine is responsive and frugal,” states New Holland.

Further, the loader is equipped with a load sensor and a variable displacement pump. Together, these systems reduce fuel consumption considerably.

The B100C backhoe loader also has a new base configuration, which includes power shuttle transmission and mechanical controls, gear-type pumps, two front and rear lights and a cab featuring a roll-over protection system and a falling-objects protection system.
