JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Weatherly International’s Tschudi mine has delivered 4 076 t of copper cathode in the quarter ended December 31 – the mine’s first quarter of commercial production.

The mine also achieved nameplate production of 17 000 t/y in December.

“Last year was one of significant operational progress for Weatherly and we are very pleased to continue our record of meeting or beating guidance at Tschudi, with the operation proceeding well and in line with our plans.

“I am delighted that, as promised in July, Weatherly is now operating a new mine producing 17 000 t/y of high-grade copper cathode in the best mining jurisdiction in Africa,” CEO Craig Thomas said on Thursday.

C1 costs for the quarter were $4 080/t – below guidance of $4 250/t to $4 350/t.
