Trollope Mining Services (TMS) intends to diversify into other mineral sectors and grow its geographical footprint into Africa. The company currently operates in the civils sector and mining industry, where it is involved in the coal, platinum, andalusite, chrome and gold sectors.

In early 2000, TMS moved its base to Johannesburg, as its geographical footprint grew beyond Limpopo, expanding into Gauteng, the North West, Mpumalanga and the Free State.

Established in 1975 by Peter and John Trollope, TMS provides services such as opencast mining, crushing and screening, rehabilitation, bulk earthworks, road construction and plant hire.

The company operates on the basis of sound corporate practices and is known as a medium-size to large contractor that delivers a superior service in the mining and services industries.

The business is customer-orientated, aiming to perform at the highest levels of production and safety. TMS prides itself on the high quality of workmanship of its operations, which it achieves through good training and the upliftment of staff, maintaining its reputation in the industry.

Much time and effort are put into maintaining the business’s fleet of plant and equipment to ensure high levels of availability. TMS remains very much self-sufficient, with little or no reliance placed on external suppliers. The company currently employs just over 700 people.

TMS’s core philosophy is that ‘business is about people’. A lot of time and money are, therefore, invested in employees and the communities in which the business operates.

This is done through various mechanisms, including external and internal training, learnerships, social economic development programmes and charity fundraising events.

Level 4 broad-based black-economic-empowerment rated, the privately owned company is 26% black-owned.
