Chilean iron-ore miner Compañía Minera del Pacífico, a company in the Santiago-listed CAP group, has an agreement to buy energy from this Amanecer Solar CAP plant, which is located in the municipality of Copiapo, in the Atacama Desert. Chile President Michelle Bachelet is seen inaugurating the SunEdison-built 100 MW facility, which has more than 310 000 photovoltaic modules spread over an area big enough for 200 soccer fields. The plant, which took six months to build, at a cost of $250-million, is connected to the regional power grid.
