Statement by Vaal University Of Technology, saddened by the passing away of former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (06/12/2013)
The community of the Vaal University of Technology is saddened by the passing away of former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela on 5 December 2013 at the ripe age of 95. We join the world in celebrating the life and times of our former President and the gift that he has been for our country and for the world.
There are not enough words to express our gratitude to Madiba and the legacy that he has left for our country. We pray that his soul may rest in peace and that God's light will shine on him forever. For the community of the Vaal University of Technology, the passing on of Madiba is as painful as it is to his family, friends and compatriots, for our records show that he once walked through the corridors of our institution after he was elected the first President of the democratic Republic of South Africa.
The photograph he took at the time will always be treasured by the University and will remain a memento to live up to his dream and expectations of a united, non-racist and prosperous South Africa for all. Our condolences go to his family, his clan, the African National Congress, all South Africans and all citizens of the world. TRIBUTE We salute Madiba for having restored the dignity of all oppressed peoples in the world. South Africa has shed its pariah status because Madiba embraced equality, equity, human dignity and diversity. Aah DALIBHUNGA!
