Precious metals miner Sibanye-Stillwater has made further changes to its organisational structure, which it says is designed to enhance delivery and strategic focus.

Robert van Niekerk, previously executive VP: group technical, has been appointed chief technology officer, effective from December 1, 2020.

He has occupied various senior leadership roles within the group since its formation in 2013, including leading the successful integration of the Kroondal, Rustenburg and Marikana platinum group metal (PGM) operations.

He has more than 30 years’ experience at both underground and surface mining operations, locally and internationally.

Further, Dawie van Aswegen has been appointed executive VP of the South African PGM operations, effective January 11,

He succeeds Wayne Robinson who was appointed as executive VP for the US PGM operations in September 2020 following the passing of Chris Bateman.

Sibanye notes that Van Aswegen has been an integral part of the South African PGMs leadership team since joining Sibanye from Anglo American Platinum in 2016.

He has held various senior management positions in the mining industry, primarily in the PGMs sector, for more than 25 years.

Sibanye has also strengthened its environmental, social and governance (ESG) capability through the appointment of Loyiso Ndlovu as senior VP of ESG.

Ndlovu has 20 years’ experience in the sustainability sector.
