Senex sets net zero targets
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Senex Energy on Monday released its decarbonisation action plan, revealing details of its plan to become a net zero operation by 2040.
“Natural gas is integral to meeting demand for reliable and affordable energy and we are focused on being the natural gas supplier of choice through the transition,” said MD and CEO Ian Davies, noting that the company was committed to supporting the global transition to a cleaner energy future and low-carbon economy.
“We plan to expand our valuable natural gas business to deliver 60 PJe per year by year-end 2025 and, at the same time, materially reduce the carbon intensity of our operations and use our knowledge and technology to help our customers to do the same,” Davies said.
The company has set a number of near-term and interim targets, including reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30% by 2025, compared with 2021 baseline output, while a 75% reduction in GHG emissions has been targeted for 2030.
The company has identified three pillars in its approach to carbon reduction, including the electrification of all new processing facilities from renewable sources, reducing flaring activities by 70% by 2025 and by 100% by 2030, conducting customer engagement to identify and set customer-related Scope 3 GHG emission reduction targets within the next year, allocating at least 5% of its annual earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation to low-carbon investments, and considering investments in credible Australian offsets for hard-to-abate emissions.
