Midtier platinum group metals producer Sedibelo Platinum Mines has appointed Lael Bethlehem senior executive responsible for environmental, social and governance (ESG) affairs with immediate effect.

She will have direct responsibility for Sedibelo’s renewable energy drive and the decarbonisation of operations.

Bethlehem was an executive at HCI where she has been responsible for solar energy investments, affordable housing investments and group environmental reporting.

She also serves as a nonexecutive director on the board of the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) where she chairs the board risk committee, and has been the representative of the IDC on the board of Sedibelo for the past six years before resigning to become chief ESG officer at Sedibelo.

“I have known Lael for many years and can only say that she is a formidable person with great passion and expertise in ESG and renewable energy matters. She will bring both to her new senior executive role at Sedibelo, where she will drive our renewable energy initiative in parallel with being the custodian of best ESG practices.

“This appointment shows the importance of ESG and sustainability in the DNA of Sedibelo,” says Sedibelo chairperson Arne H Frandsen.
