Statement by NISSAN, joins South Africa in mourning the loss of Nelson Mandela (06/12/2013)
Nissan is saddened to learn of the passing of Nelson Mandela yesterday after a long illness.
“South Africa has lost one of our most loved and revered icons,” said Nissan South Africa managing director Mike Whitfield. “Madiba was an inspiration and example to us all. We send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones at this very sad time.”
Whitfield said that Mandela was a global icon whose humility and dignity had earned him the global respect of individuals, regardless of rank.
His actions, he continued, served as a role model for young and old alike and that Nissan SA employees will continue to honour Madiba’s legacy by giving of their time each year on Mandela Day, the anniversary of his birth, a day inspired by the selfless qualities for which he was universally known and admired.
Mandela turned 95 on 18 July 2013.
