JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – A reinvestigation of existing drill intersections from the African Eagle Resources-owned Dutwa project, in northern Tanzania, has revealed visible nickel sulphide mineralisation and platinum-group elements (PGEs) in the strata below confirmed deposits.

The mineralisation occurred in a shallow zone directly below the known laterite deposits at the primary Wamangola Hill deposit, the company reported on Thursday.

It was discovered following a review of bedrock intersections, which had revealed a number of holes with elevated nickel and PGE values that were inconsistent with the known laterite mineralisation.

African Eagle CEO Trevor Moss said the strong values achieved were potentially “very exciting” for the Dutwa project.

“We have long known the significance of Dutwa’s laterite deposits, but the presence of nickel and PGEs in sulphides in the strata immediately underlying these deposits is further evidence of the strength of Dutwa overall,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

The company planned to implement an exploration programme to explore and quantify the extent of the sulphide mineralisation and to investigate a potential nickel province that may exist in northern Tanzania.

It would also undertake a programme of geophysical surveys, including electromagnetic and induced polarisation to delineate the current extent of the known mineralisation at Wamangola and to define additional areas for drill testing.
