Welcome to Creamer Media’s Resources Watch, a weekly video round-up of the events and people making and shaping the news in the mining industry.

This week:
Implats defers production target, reviews capex, ups new technology plans
And, as women enter the mining sector, the door is only slightly open as legacy issues persist.

Strike-impacted platinum-mining company Impala Platinum has deferred its 850 000 oz Rustenburg production target, is reviewing its capital expenditure (capex) programme intensively and is going all out to ramp up its post-strike restart to 250 000 oz of platinum from Rustenburg in the first half of its financial year to December 31.

Implats CEO Terence Goodlace

It has been 20 years since the dawn of democracy in South Africa and women are better represented in the mining industry as legislation now enables them to work in the industry. However, legacy issues, owing to the exclusion of women in the past, persist. Tracy Hancock reports.
