PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Potash developer Kalium Lakes has reported a six-million-tonne increase in the sulphate of potash (SoP) resource at its Beyondie project, in Western Australia.

Kalium Lakes on Thursday reported a 200% increase in the measured and indicated resource at the Lake Sunshine deposit, following additional drilling and test work.

The work at the Lake Sunshine deposit was undertaken as part of optimisation of the brine production borefield, and has delivered an increased total drainable mineral resource of 31.4-million tonnes, at 13 151 mg/l SoP.

“This is an outstanding result. Our team is focused not only on optimising plans for the startup production at 90 000 t/y SoP, but also improving the foundation for project expansion and increased production,” said Kalium Lakes CEO Rudolph van Niekerk.

“This significant increase in resources at Lake Sunshine is just another building block in our plans to build a long-term, sustainable SoP producing operation that will not only deliver much needed SoP into the Australian market, but also generate long-term returns to the company’s shareholders and investors.”

Kalium Lakes recently reported that construction of the Beyondie project was more than 50% complete, with the project tracking ahead of schedule.

Once in production, the Beyondie project will produce 180 000 t/y SoP, with the option to incrementally phase the project through a ramp-up from 90 000 t/y to 180 000 t/y to minimise operational and financial risks.
