Name: Red Lake mine.

Location: The project is located in Ontario, Canada, about 535 km north-west of Thunder Bay.

Mine Owner/s: Evolution Mining.

Brief Description: The Red Lake mine is situated on one of the biggest-, highest-grade gold camps in North America, with a 457 km2 land package in a highly prospective district.

The operation comprises the Red Lake, Campbell and Cochenour mines over a 7 km strike length.

Access is through three shafts – Cochenour, Reid and No 3. The Cochenour mine is connected to Red Lake by a 5 km haulage drift.

Ore is processed at the Campbell mill.

Current mineral resources and reserves support a 13-year mine life.

Brief History: Evolution Mining acquired the Red Lake complex from Newmont Goldcorp in 2020.

Primary Metals/Minerals: Gold.

Secondary Metals/Minerals: None stated.

Geology/Mineralisation: The Campbell-Red Lake gold deposit is located in the Red Lake greenstone belt. It is one of the largest and richest Archean gold deposits in Canada. Gold mineralisation is mainly associated with silicification and arsenopyrite that replace carbonate veins, breccias and wallrock selvages. The carbonate veins and breccias, which comprise ankerite ± quartz and characterised by crustiform–cockade textures, were formed before and/or in the early stage of penetrative ductile deformation, whereas silicification, arsenopyrite replacement and gold mineralisation were coeval with deformation.

Reserves: Not stated.

Resources: Total mineral resources as at December 31, 2019, were estimated at 48.08-million tonnes grading 7.1 g/t gold.

Mining Method: Underground, using sublevel open stoping, along with traditional and modified Avoca methods.

Major Infrastructure and Equipment: Ore and waste from the mine is moved through internal passes, trams and ramp trucking and hoisted to surface using the Reid and No 3 shafts. Ventilation is a push-pull system, comprising four intake and five exhaust fans and 15 underground booster fans.

Processing at the Campbell mill is through conventional crushing and grinding, followed by gravity concentration to recover free-milling gold, with refractory gold recovered by floatation followed by pressure oxidation, neutralisation and carbon-in-leach.

Evolution plans to increase the capacity of the Campbell mill to one-million tonnes a year by 2023

Prospects: Evolution Mining has identified significant upside at the Red Lake – Campbell and Cochenour complexes, along with excellent long-term regional potential to increase the current resource base.
