Specialist in electric power generation and electromechanical power transmission Vert Energy supports a wide range of components and systems, with the assistance of a repair, refurbishment and maintenance service throughout Africa.

The company’s services for electronic systems and panels encompass remote monitoring, quarterly maintenance checks, yearly services and a maintenance facility. This is particularly beneficial with regard to the refurbishment of the systems at mines that have been put on care and maintenance whereby operations are required to be maintained should operations start again.

“We understand the critical role electric power generation performs in every industry and we know how important it is to have a secure and efficient power supply and a dependable support facility, especially for companies in isolated locations,” says Vert Energy MD Grant Robertson.

Vert Energy has a highly skilled team of technicians that is able to help with any electromechanical breakdown or repair problem. On-site services include inspection and fault finding, as well as the refurbishment and repair of most types of generator stator or rotors. Original-equipment-manufacturer- (OEM-) trained engineers also have the expertise to assist with reassembly, installation and commissioning of power generation systems.

“Where repairs are not possible on site, work is undertaken at Vert Energy’s Johannesburg workshop, or at a certified repair facility in Africa. Apart from the company’s 24-hour assistance with any emergency electromechanical breakdown or repair situation, Vert Energy has developed a preventive and emergency maintenance programme, designed to minimise the downtime of either prime power or standby generators.”

Robertson adds that proactive maintenance management not only increases reliability of a system, but also maintains the factory warranty coverage of every component. The company uses original spare parts and accessories, according to stringent OEM specifications.

Vert Energy’s mechanical services include preventive maintenance for diesel engine generators, which reduces long-term operating costs and ensures extended service life. By following diesel maintenance procedures and a manufacturer’s recommendations, the risk of failure on critical power applications during startup is reduced.

Robertson notes that generator sets that are on continuous standby must be able to go from a cold start to being fully operational in seconds, which imposes a severe burden on engine parts. However, regular monthly running keeps engine parts lubricated, prevents oxidation of electrical contacts, uses fuel before it deteriorates and ensures reliable engine starting.
