Inspection, verification, testing and certification company SGS has announce that its South African mineral project management division SGS Bateman Engineering Services achieved a Level 4 broad-based black economic-empowerment (B-BBEE) status in September.

B-BBEE is a legislative initiative to increase ownership, management and employment of black people in the South African economy. In addition to B-BBEE Level 4 status, SGS Bateman received notification confirming recommendation for recertification in accordance with the new ISO 9001 requirements. These certifications will allow SGS to continue to grow and contribute towards the socio- economic development of South Africa.

“SGS Bateman Engineering Services has been operating in the South African minerals and mining industry for 96 years. We are committed to supporting our clients’ unique needs but also the local communities’,” said SGS Bateman Engineering Services business develop- ment manager Mark Broadbent. “The B-BBEE and ISO 9001 certifications demonstrate SGS’ commitment to continuously improve our services and meet our clients’ needs”.

SGS initially acquired the assets of Bateman Projects in 2016. SGS Bateman Engineering Services now specialises in providing process plant design and engineering, project management and commissioning, and optimisation services for mineral processing plants. Its activities cover a variety of minerals including gold, iron-ore, copper, uranium and coal.

SGS Bateman Engineering Services manages the complete mining project life cycle, from concept to commissioning. It is a well-known engineering, procurement and construction management contractor with significant global experience, offering extensive knowledge of local materials and labour availability, as well as code and statutory requirements and subcontractor experience and performance. SGS Bateman Engineering Services’ Modular Plants division supplies cost effective, robust, easy to erect plants for the gold and diamond industries.
