Department of Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Godfrey Oliphant and Anglo American Platinum CEO Chris Griffith take part in the ribbon cutting at the world’s first platinum-based rural electrification fuel cell mini-grid project undertaken by JSE-listed platinum producer Anglo American Platinum and Canada-based Ballard Power Systems. The 12-month trial will see 34 households in the rural community of Naledi Trust, which is part of the Moqhaka local municipality in the southern part of the Fezile Dabi district of the Free State, being powered using a methanol fuel cell.
