Petra appoints Jon Dudas as nonexec director

London-listed Petra Diamonds has appointed Jon Dudas as an independent nonexecutive director of the company, effective March 1.

Dudas is currently chairperson of Samruk-Kazyna, Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund, which he joined in 2020. Prior to this, he was an independent nonexecutive director and chairperson of the National Atomic Company Kazatomprom.

He also previously held various roles at diversified miner BHP, including president and CEO of its Aluminium division and as its group CIO, as well as holding senior business leadership and commercial roles in marketing and business development.

He has also been executive chairperson of Worsley Alumina in Australia and Mozal Aluminium in Mozambique and a nonexecutive director of the Guinea Alumina Corporation in West Africa. 

Dudas is noted to have a broad practical base in mining, starting in South Africa as a graduate mining engineer with Harmony Gold Mines, progressing to GM of Winkelhaak Gold Mine after moving to Gencor.

He holds a BSc in Mining Engineering and an MSc in Mineral Economics from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, an MBA from Heriot-Watt University in the UK and a South African Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency.

Dudas, a British and South African citizen, will serve on Petra’s nomination, audit & risk, remuneration and investment committees.
