OWN GOALS

21st October 2016

The decision by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to charge Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan, as well as former South African Revenue Service officials Ivan Pillay and Oupa Magashule, with fraud did not come as a massive surprise, given the politics that currently pollute not only the NPA, but also many other State institutions. There is little question, though, that the move will damage an already ailing economy and further weaken confidence at a time when the exact opposite is required. It is a case of conceding yet another very preventable own goal.
