Committed to developing tomorrow’s technologies and solving today’s challenges, Orica is the largest global provider of commercial explosives and blasting systems to the mining and infrastructure markets and leader in the provision of ground support in mining and tunnelling. The ASX-listed company, with a market capitalisation of over A$8-billion, is also a major manufacturer and supplier of chemical-based consumables and of sodium cyanide for gold extraction. With operations in over 50 countries, Orica employs 14 500 people and services customers in over 100 countries.

Orica products and services provide benefits to customers in ways such as blasting of rock to allow mining of valuable minerals and metals, cost-effective removal of overburden and the efficient extraction of metals from the broken rock. Mining operations are optimised through the combined application of blasting, ground support and ore-processing chemical technologies.

In blasting, Orica has built a leading global position in the mining and infrastructure industries. It provides bulk explosive systems, packaged explosives, electronic blasting systems and initiating systems, as well as different levels of service such as ‘down the hole’, ‘total load’ and performance-based blasting services.

The group supports its leadership position in the supply of ore-processing chemicals, by offering products such as sodium cyanide, cyanide analysers, sparge delivery systems, PROService, flotation chemicals, active chemicals and emulsifiers.

Orica ground support, which supplies mainly the underground mining and underground construction industries, provides ground support services, rock bolts, resin capsules, injection resins, anchors and cementitious grouts. These were formerly sold under the Minova brand. Minova has been owned by Orica since 2007, but has recently changed its brand to Orica and integrated the ground support business into a single Orica structure. This forms part of a broader restructuring, which is designed to reduce complexity, improve services and offer better value to customers.

Orica’s South African ground support business, known as Orica Mining Services South Africa, is an ISO 9001:2008 certified company. Its Lokset resin capsules carry the SABS 1534 mark and the Capcem small diameter capsules carry the SABS 1745 mark.

The group is committed to partnerships for ‘Clever Resourceful Solutions’ and is investing heavily in new technology and services.
