Local engineering solutions organisation SureGO! will display one of its first-ever flexible walkway bridges at this year’s Electra Mining Africa.

“We are thrilled to display this exciting and unique innovation at the exhibition. Attendees will see the world’s first safe, flexible and floating bridge prototype, which was designed and tested at the harbour mouth in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, in 2014. “The flexible and floating bridge was put to the test for two months to see if it can endure strong storms and adjust to the ever-changing tides,” says owner Tex Neveling, who patented the flexible bridge solution in 2010.

At Electra Mining Africa, SureGO! will showcase a model of the flexible walkway bridge. Attendees will be allowed to walk on the bridge and take a closer look at the intricacies of the invention.

The company specialises in three types of bridges: SureGO! Walk, SureGO! Drive and SureGO! Utility.

SureGO! Walk is a flexible temporary, or permanent walkway bridge over water or other shifting surfaces, which provides a continuous floor surface, handrail and overhead protection. Traditional walkways can only be used in a straight line with 90° offsets to change direction, while SureGO! Walk constantly follows any floating destination on the water. For instance, a yacht moored in different positions will be reached as long as it is within the walkway’s reach. The walkway will twist and curl to adapt to different positions.

The SureGO! Drive is a flexible, continuous, temporary or permanent driveway bridge designed to cross water or another shifting surface. The bridge will adapt to water levels and settle on the soil below when there is no more water. These bridges can replace existing bridges damaged during floods and can be installed as temporary or permanent bridges.

SureGO! Utility is designed to carry hoses and electrical cables across water or other shifting surfaces, from one point to another nonfixed point, along flexible, continuous floating platforms.

“What makes our bridges unique is that they provide the ideal solution to safely move from point A to point B, be it through walking or driving, over shifting surfaces. “Our bridges prove to be a safe passage in areas with fluctuating currents, tides or water levels, as well as in swamp and marsh areas with sludge and sand.

“SureGO!-designed bridges change position and adapt according to the ever-changing environment, while ensuring continuous flooring, handrail protection, as well as overhead protection,” says Neveling.
