The introduction of new vertical slurry pumps for mining and industrial applications is set to significantly improve the reliability of operations, and reduce clients’ need to stock spares, reports pumps manufacturer KSB Pumps and Valves South Africa.

The company’s new LCV series of vertical slurry pumps is manufactured to withstand harsh operational environments, as well as abrasive and corrosive conditions.

The pumps allow for interchangeable wet-end components with the common LCC range of horizontal slurry pumps for routine maintenance requirements.

KSB product manager Mohamed Trabelsi says the new offering completes KSB’s range of mining and related-industry pumps, providing customers with the ability to deal with a single-source supplier to design, specify and supply complete pumping solutions for a broad range of applications.

The company’s LCV series pumps vary in discharge sizes – from 50 mm to 300 mm – and feature a flow rate of up to 1 360 m3/h. The pumps can operate to a head of up to 38 m. Further, shaft sizes start at 90 mm and are available at a maximum length of 200 mm, while cantilevers range in size from 900 mm to 2 100 mm.

Niche Market
“With the introduction of the LCV range, we are meeting the market’s requirements for a rugged, heavy-duty vertical slurry pump that can be used effectively in a variety of applications, from mine tailings to dewatering applications, waste and even dredging applications,” he says.

The pumps are developed and tested in a slurry testing facility in the US state of Georgia.

Trabelsi adds that the proven design features of the heavy-duty LCC slurry pump have been incorporated into the LCV range, allowing for interchangeable wet-end parts and durable mechanical ends. “The resulting LCV is a vertical cantilever sump pump with bottom suction and no submerged bearings for the most severe applications,” he says.

Trabelsi highlights the V-belt drive system, which can accommodate a range of different motor sizes aimed at enhancing application flexibility as another benefit for operators.

Pumping Solutions
As the pumps are manufactured locally in Germiston, Gauteng, in accordance with international standards, the company is able to provide fast turnaround times on orders and maintain sufficient spare parts to service all regions within sub-Saharan Africa.

In addition, the high level of interchangeable parts on KSB units enables customers to keep a minimal amount of spare parts across the entire range of pumps.

As international sales fall worldwide, KSB is singularly focused on the pumps and valves market, providing full service and support of its products that are used in several different applications throughout the world.

In South Africa, KSB’s service provision includes full sales and after-sales support, maintenance inspection management, system efficiency services, technical consulting and full pump management services.
