Name: New Acland mine.

Location: The New Acland mine is located new Oakey, in south-east Queensland, Australia.

Mine Owner/s: New Hope Group.

Brief Description: New Acland is an opencut mine conducting mining activities on mining leases 50170 and 50216, in the Surat basin.

Brief History: The New Acland mine started operating in October 2002.

Primary Metals/Minerals: Thermal coal.

Secondary Metals/Minerals: None.

Geology/Mineralisation: The New Acland deposit is a multithin seam coal deposit located in the Clarence Moreton basin within the lower Walloon Coal Measures, and is similar to other Walloon coal deposits mined at Jeebropilly. The Acland-Sabine sequence, which is currently mined at New Acland, is 30 m to 60 m thick. It contains six seam groups nominated from the top to bottom as A to F, with up to ten plies within each group and 47 plies in total. The seam groups contain up to 18 m of banded coal, with an average thickness of the individual plies of 0.23 m.

Reserves: Total recoverable coal reserves as at March 31, 2019, were estimated at 370-million. Marketable reserves were estimated at 201-million tonnes.

Resources: Total resources as at May 31, 2020, were estimated at 497-million tonnes.

Mining Method: Opencut. A multiple block extraction mining system is used to provide access to the coal, with the process allowing for blending different qualities of coal to meet product specification.

Major Infrastructure and Equipment: The mine features two coal preparation plants in addition to a train loading facility near Jondaryan, as well as administration buildings.

Prospects: New Hope Group is currently in the approval process for New Acland Stage 3, which involves mining reserves from mining lease area 50232.
