Mining Indaba takes home 1st prize for ‘Best large-scale event’ at the 2018 Conference Awards
On 29th June 2018 members of the Mining Indaba team attended the London Conference Awards, which took place at the beautiful venue City Central at the HAC. Chosen by judges from a shortlist of 8 finalists, Investing in African Mining Indaba came away with the prestigious title of ‘Best large-scale event’ and achieved 2nd place in ‘Best overseas conference of the year (over 400 delegates)’.
Judges commented that: “putting the audience and sector's needs front and centre, the Mining Indaba team completely overhauled a tired looking brand to breathe new life into the event for its 24th edition.”
“A well-executed research strategy. Complete and utter turnaround. Overcame massive challenges. Excellent. Impressive delegate growth and the financial results are a well-deserved reflection of a great entry.”
Mining Indaba’s 24th edition, which took place 5-8 February 2018 in Cape Town, saw a fresh revamp of branding and direction, with a bigger focus on facilitating deal-making and on creating a platform for relevant industry discussions around sustainable development, national policy and technological innovations. This new audience-centric strategy resulted in a 15% increase in attendance, most notably with a 47% increase in mining executives.
Despite challenges caused by the water shortage in the Western Cape, the team raised awareness of the issue and worked with local suppliers to minimise the impact of the event on Cape Town’s infrastructure as well as donating to local aid charity Gift of the Givers.
Managing Director of Mining Indaba Alex Grose commented on the win saying: “I am extremely proud of what we achieved this year and for other people in our industry to recognise that too, is the icing on the cake.”
