German-owned abrasive products manufacturer PFERD South Africa is continuing with product line extensions for its coated and bonded abrasive products to meet market needs.

This follows the manufacturer’s having noticed a steady shift in the market towards hand-held power tools that can improve the overall efficiency and cost effectiveness of the production environment.

“Hand-held power tools are used within a variety of industries on a daily basis, therefore using the correct, safest and most cost-efficient consumable is vitally important to ensure optimum performance,” explains PFERD South Africa national sales manager Dennis Phillips.

He highlights the company’s ALLROUND tungsten carbide burrs, VSM ACTIROX fibre discs and ALUMASTER products, which encompass the increasing importance of operator safety and comfort within the working environment – especially when using power tools.

The tungsten carbide burrs offer a unique cut, which produces increased stock removal rates of up to 30% when compared with conventional crosscuts that are available in the market, he explains.

The higher stock removal rate and unique cut of the burrs reduce the vibration and noise during operation, which, in turn, improves operator comfort and safety.

“The ALLROUND tungsten carbide burrs’ versatile and suitable use on various key materials, such as steel, cast steels, stainless steel or inox, nonferrous metals and cast irons, makes it the ideal solution for many processing and manufacturing environments,” Phillips notes.

Coated and bonded abrasives products containing ceramic grain have been used

in the industry for numerous years. They are well known thanks to their improved stock removal, cut rate and extended service life owing to the self-sharpening characteristic of ceramic grains. The ACTIROX fibre discs provide the user with maximum stock removal in the shortest period of time while maintaining a superior service life, owing to the in-house-designed and -manufactured precision-shaped ceramic grains of the discs, he adds.

The ceramic grains of the ACTIROX fibre discs are identical in shape and size, and their cutting edges are consistently applied to the workpiece at an optimum angle throughout its service life. Phillips adds that the ceramic grains penetrate the workpiece effortlessly and achieve the maximum possible stock removal while reducing heat build-up within the grinding zone. The self-sharpening characteristics of the ceramic grains enable a user to achieve the most efficient and economical machining process.

The ALUMASTER high-speed disc is ideal for processing aluminium and other nonferrous materials in numerous industries.

The discs consist of a solid circular body with interchangeable tungsten carbide cutting inserts. It also offers an exceptionally high stock rate, as a result of its milling action while in operation, he notes.

Phillips points out that another advantage of the disc is that it does not generate hazardous dust and does not require a special extraction system.

“The ALUMASTER high-speed discs are safer, more cost effective and environment friendly when compared with normal grinding wheels and flap discs. They are used on angle grinders, and additional product variants are available for other hand-held power tools.”

He highlights that all PFERD South Africa products are designed to suit commonly used hand-held and stationary power tools, with the main objective of improving production efficiencies and operator safety while reducing operating costs.

PFERD South Africa is continuously improving its product offering to ensure that it provides industry with the best possible solutions, adds Phillips.

The company’s technical sales advisers and application specialists can also assess a user’s processes, after which the optimum product and power tool combination will be recommended for that particular application to ensure the safest and most cost-effective solution, he concludes.
