PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Rare earths miner Lynas has awarded a near A$33-million contract to Australian industrial services company WestStar Industrial at its rare earths processing facility in Kalgoorlie.

WestStar’s engineering construction business, Alltype Engineering, has signed a contract for the fabrication and installation of the kiln feed hood and waste gas treatment circuit at the processing facility.

The award marked the largest single contract award to Alltype in its 37-year history, WestStar said on Tuesday.

Work on the contract has already started and is due for completion during 2023.

The A$500-million Kalgoorlie rare earth processing project would employ about 290 staff during construction and up to 128 staff during operations. The new cracking and leaching plant will upgrade the rare earth concentrate from the Mt Weld operation, which is currently exported to Malaysia.
