Lucapa sells 404 ct stone
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Diamond miner Lucapa Diamond has sold its recently unearthed 404 ct diamond for A$22.5-million.
The stone was recovered at the Lulo project, in Angola, earlier this month, and was the largest recorded diamond ever found in Angola.
Lucapa said on Monday that the sales price achieved for the 404 ct stone represented an average price of A$55 585/ct, which was a record price for a white diamond recovered from the Lulo project.
“The sale of a single diamond for $16-million underlines the huge potential of the Lulo diamond field to regularly produce gems which are both large and of world-class quality,” said Lucapa CEO Stephen Wetherall.
“We look to the future with tremendous excitement at Lulo as we continue mining these exceptional alluvial diamond areas, growing our alluvial mining capability and advancing the kimberlite exploration programme to locate the primary source or sources of these gems.”
