Johannesburg-based equipment manufacturer Osborn attended the Mining World Russia exhibition last month to showcase its range of South African-designed and -manufactured equipment.

The three-day event was held at the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre in Krasnogorsk, in Russia’s Moscow Oblast.

Osborn marketing director Martin Botha says the event attracted visitors largely from Russia and former Soviet republics that are now Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, including Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Osborn has exported equipment to these States and continues to make inroads into the region’s mining industry.

The company has supplied a double-toggle jaw crusher to Kazakhstan operation Kazchrome – one of the world’s largest chrome exporters.

The most recent export order to Azerbaijan was for its locally manufactured track-mounted primary jaw crusher, to be used at an aggregate mine. A modular plant, designed and built in South Africa by Osborn, is operating in Siberia, at the Alrosa iron-ore facility.

“Despite the depressed economy, there are still opportunities . . . in Russia and the CIS countries, and we are actively marketing Osborn’s range of high-quality machines in the region. We have a proactive agent representing us in Russia, and also believe that shows like Mining World Russia offer a worthwhile platform to showcase our equipment,” he concludes.
