PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Lake Way potash project, in Western Australia, is on track for commissioning in December this year, with owner Salt Lake Potash reporting that civil earthworks for the process plant and non-process infrastructure have been completed.

The completed work includes pad preparation for construction of the process plant, power plant, warehouse, workshop, administration and site village, as well as construction of the raw water pond, runoff settlement ponds and site access roads.

“The current volatile economic environment, and a relatively unchanged sulphate of potash (SoP) price, highlights the resilience of the global agricultural sector. Our Lake Way project continues to rapidly progress and remains on time and on budget with the achievement of another significant milestone,” said Salt Lake CEO Tony Swiericzuk.

Salt Lake is developing the A$254-million Lake Way project, in Western Australia, which is expected to produce 245 000 t/y of SoP over a mine life of 20 years, based on the high grade probable ore reserve of 5.4-million tonnes SoP.

First revenue from the project is expected in the first quarter of 2021.
