Jundee Operations, Australia
Name of the Mine
Jundee Operations.
Location
Northern Goldfields region of Western Australia.
Mine Owner/s
Northern Star.
Brief Description
The Jundee Operations from part of the Yandal Production Centre and comprises three underground portals – Barton, Gateway and Invicta – that provide access to the various underground lode structures at the Jundee Operations.
The Barton portal contains three actively working orebodies – Nim3, Lyons and Westside.
Invicta comprises the Invicta (remnants), Cardassian and Deakin orebodies.
The Gateway and Gringotts orebodies are mined from the Gateway portal.
Brief History
Jundee was acquired by Northern Star in 2014.
Production started in 1995 from a complex of openpits, and in 1997 from two underground mines. Ore is currently sourced from only the underground mining operations.
Primary Metals/Minerals
Gold.
Secondary Metals/Minerals

Geology/Mineralisation
Jundee is an Archean lode-gold deposit located in the northern Yandal greenstone belt. The local greenstone succession is dominated by mafic-ultramafic rocks and dolerite sills.
The Jundee mine sequence comprises the Fisher and Lyons tholeiitic basalt units, separated by a sedimentary sequence that has been intruded by a suite of differentiated dolerite sills. The entire mine sequence is cut by dacitic porphyry, porphyritic granodiorite and lamprophyre intrusions.
Gold distribution is controlled by a brittle fault-fracture system preferentially developed in dolerite and basalt and, to a lesser extent, in felsic-intermediate porphyry. Individual ore lenses are generally tabular in geometry, narrow and highly discontinuous, and occur in multiple orientations. Proximal alteration is characterised by a quartz/sericite/ankerite/sulphide assemblage.
Reserves
Not stated.
Resources
Total measured, indicated and inferred resources as at March 31, 2021, were estimated at 62.45-million tonnes grading 2.7 g/t gold.
Mining Method
Underground mining is conducted by an up-hole longhole open stoping sequence. No backfill or paste is used.
Major Infrastructure and Equipment
The Jundee processing circuit comprises a conventional carbon-in-leach plant, with a hard-rock processing capacity of about three-million tonnes a year.
The process consists of a single-toggle overhead eccentric swing jaw crusher followed by a semiautogenous grinding and ball milling circuit, incorporating gravity recovery and carbon-in-pulp processing achieving 92% recoveries.
Prospects
None stated.
