Name: Jeebropilly mine.

Location: The mine is located in Amberley, in Queensland, Australia.

Mine Owner/s: Jeebropilly Collieries, a subsidiary of New Hope Group.

Brief Description: Jeebropilly is New Hope Group’s oldest operation.

The mine is part of the company's West Moreton coal operations, which also includes the New Oakleigh openpit coal mine.

The mine comprises 11 mining leases and one petroleum facility licence.

It was the last operating mine in the West Moreton district of Queensland. After 38 years of operation, the mine closed on December 20, 2019, after all economically viable reserves had been extracted.

Brief History: The mine started operations in 1982. After a care and maintenance period in 2007, it restarted operations in 2008. The mine closed at the end of 2019.

Primary Metals/Minerals: Thermal coal.

Secondary Metals/Minerals: None stated.

Geology/Mineralisation: Coal mined in the West Moreton area occurs in the central to upper part of the Walloon coal measures, primarily the Jeebropilly series, and contains locally named coal seams referred to as the Boughen, Butler, Cowell, Passe, Kathage, Wass and Haenke seams. These occur over an interval of about 120 m and 43 individual plies are modelled in this sequence. The plies have an average thickness of 0.06 m to 0.48 m, with the average thickness of partings up to 2.7 m.

Reserves: None stated.

Resources: None stated.

Mining Method: Jeebropilly was a thin-seam opencut operation, which used truck-and-shovel methods to extract thermal coal.

Major Infrastructure and Equipment: Overburden at the Jeebropilly mine was either ripped by bulldozers, or blasted, to allow access to the coal seam. The multi thin-seam operation that followed used excavators, front-end loaders and trucks in the traditional manner.

The operation included a coal washing plant.

Prospects: Rehabilitation of the Jeebropilly mining site is under way.
