ASX-listed Ionic Rare Earths has mobilised a third drill rig at its 51%-owned Makuutu project, in Uganda.

The company is undertaking a 5 700 m Phase 4 infill drill programme at the project.

The Phase 4 drilling is aimed at identifying additional rare earth element-bearing clay mineralisation extensions adjacent to Makuutu, as well as at converting inferred resources to indicated and measured resources, which will underpin a feasibility study for the project.

Ionic says Makuutu, located 120 km east of Kampala, is considered to be one of the world’s largest ionic absorption clay-hosted rare earth element deposits.

Ionic is focused on completing a feasibility study and supporting activities to apply for a mining licence before November 1, 2022.
