Environmental management company I-CAT offers specialised services and products in dust suppression, wastewater treatment and management, carbon footprint management, agricultural and forestry products, environmental management and compliance and fire suppression.

Established in 2005, I-CAT has grown from strength to strength in a short space of time and is today one of the country’s leading dust suppression product and service providers, with major mining groups, such as Anglo American, Assmang, Kumba Iron Ore, Exarro, First Quantum, Glencore and African Rainbow Minerals on its books.

The company boast a strong order book, covering 100% of its budget for the next two years. I-CAT has recently been awarded an extension to its three-year secondary road dust contract at a major iron-ore mine, in the Northern Cape. It has also received a sizable order for dust and fire misting at York Timbers, in Mpumalanga.

I-CAT is set to launch a new product in September this year, which promises to bring down costs significantly for clients using its fire suppression products. The company is currently awaiting South African Bureau of Standards approval for a new fire mist extinguisher, which will allow the user to extinguish any type of fire using a water mist instead of carbon dioxide or dry powder.

I-CAT’s head office is located in North Riding, Johannesburg, on a 4 600 m2 industrial stand, which has 800 m2 office space and 1 000 m2 of workshop and warehouse space. The firm has bought an industrial site in the N4 Gateway Park, in Pretoria, which it plans to develop in the next year.

The group has offices in Perth, Australia and Maputo, Mozambique, as well as operational offices in Scientia, in Pretoria, Kuruman, in the Northern Cape, Kitwe, in Zambia. Its production facility is located in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

The company has 58 permanent employees in South Africa and has empowered over ten representative companies, which in turn, jointly employ more than 200 people. Additional employment opportunities have been created in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Australia.

The privately owned company supports the principals of broad-based black-economic empowerment (BBBEE), with its South African holding company wholly owned by South African citizens, including 26% broad-based black ownership. I-CAT currently holds a level four BBBEE certificate and plans to improve this rating to a level three certificate with its next audit at the end of 2014.

I-CAT is ISO 9001:2008 compliant and is in the process of obtaining ISO 14001 and 18001 certification.
