Hudbay suspends Lalor underground ops after fatality

Underground operations at the Lalor mine, in Snow Lake, Manitoba, have been halted for an investigation into the death of a worker on Saturday evening.

Metals miner Hudbay Minerals reported on Sunday that a worker, employed by a service provider, was fatally injured while working at height.

No other personnel were injured.

“This is a tragic situation and we are profoundly saddened by this unfortunate incident. Our hearts go out to the individual’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time,” said president and CEO Peter Kukielski.

He also stressed that the safety and health of its workforce was a priority for Hudbay.
