Honeymoon restart clears another hurdle
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The South Australian Department of Energy has approved uranium developer Boss Energy’s updated Programme for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPR) at the Honeymoon uranium project.
Approval for the updated PEPR is a key regulatory document required under the Mining Act for the restart of production.
“Boss is well on the path to becoming Australia’s next uranium producer,” said MD Duncan Craib.
“We are making rapid progress on site, we are fully funded through to production and the outlook for uranium demand is extremely strong as the world prepares to meet its energy needs and carbon emissions targets at the same time.”
The ASX-listed company earlier this year pulled the trigger on the A$113-million restart of the project, with the aim of producing first uranium in the December quarter of 2023, and ramping up to a steady-state rate of 2.45-million pounds of triuranium octoxide a year over a mine life of 11 years.
The restart project is expected to generate a post-tax net present value of A$729-million and revenues of A$1.2-billion over the life of the project.
First production from Honeymoon is expected in the fourth quarter of 2023, and the project would ramp up to full capacity within three years.
