Northam Platinum independent nonexecutive director Emily Kgosi plants a tree at one of the wonderful houses that Northam Platinum has built in the town of Northam. Looking on is Northam Platinum CEO Paul Dunne, who last week hosted a media visit, which included Mining Weekly, to this happy housing project, where buyers are all smiles at their acquisition of 60 m2 dwellings at R500 000 apiece. Housing loans are paid off using the former living-out allowances that mineworkers received if they spurned the pernicious hostel system. The houses are also sold to nonemployees.
