The Ghana Mining Summit will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre from June 12 to 14 and is expected to have more than 200 delegates in attendance, comprising local and international participants.

The summit, which is being organised by the Ghana Chamber of Mines (CoM), comes on the back of increased activity in the mining industry and renewed investor interest in Ghana and the broader West African region, Ghana CoM CEO Dr Toni Aubynn tells Mining Weekly.

The event is already generating a high level of interest in Ghana and globally with its rich mix of topics and speakers. This year, the summit is dedicated to further developing existing business interests and promoting new mining and exploration opportunities for investors, miners and financiers, says Aubynn.

“It also aims to reposition Ghana as an attractive gate- way for mining investment in West Africa and to connect mining companies with investors, suppliers and government officials with the objective of exploring and developing the vast mining opportunities,” states Aubynn.

Additional aims of the summit are to have industry experts discuss prospects in the mining investment arena with potential miners, place a spotlight on industry movers and shakers, and highlight current hot spots and gaps in the industry.

“It should be seen as a platform for interaction with the captains of the extractive industry, exchange of ideas, learning and finding common solutions to current strategic challenges in Ghana,” notes Aubynn.

Delegates will also be informed about changes in regulatory policies, the outlook for bulk resources such as iron-ore, bauxite, manganese, rare metals and precious metals.

A networking forum, which will allow existing and potential companies to use the business opportunities and exploit the chance to showcase their products and services, will also be part of the event.

Summit Speakers

The summit will host several industry stalwarts who will give their view on the current state of the industry, including Aubynn, Ghana CoM president Daniel Owiredu, Ghana CoM VP Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Toronto-based Clarus Securities MD of research Nana Sangmuah, International Finance Corporation Ghana national supplier development manager Anne-Claire Goupy, Ghana CoM former CEO Dr Joyce Rosalind Aryee, Ghana Minerals Commission CEO Benjamin Aryee as well as representatives of Ministeries of Mines from across the subregion.

“Together with Lindiwe Corporate Services, the appointed event organisers, we aim to have the programme for the summit finalised and made public by the end of March,” adds Ghana CoM director of public affairs and environment Ahmed Nantogmah.
