Eskom, together with the nation, is mourning the passing of South Africa’s beloved former President, Nelson Mandela.

Tributes have poured in from Eskom’s business partners and associates from all over the world, underscoring the extraorindary reach of his inpirational life, which will last far beyond his passing.

As President, he championed the electrification programme – we were able to achieve 2-million new connections during his term in office. It was Madiba’s wish that all South Africans should live a life of dignity and we believe that  access to electricity plays a significant role towards achieving  that objective.

The best way for us at Eskom to honour his memory in the long term is to continue to support and drive South Africa’s electrification programme to connect homes, schools and clinics, thereby improving the lives of ordinary South Africans.

In preparation for the week ahead and the funeral service, Eskom is working closely with municipalities and government’s Joint Operations Committiees particularly in the Gauteng and Eastern Cape Provinces to ensure quality of electricity supply during this period, although we don’t expect a significant increase in power consumption.
