Two contractors died at Asanko gold mine at the weekend, 50%-owner Galiano Gold reported on Monday.

The company said that the mine’s emergency services responded to the incident near the tailings storage facility, where both people were pronounced dead at the scene.

"On behalf of Galiano Gold, we offer our sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of our two colleagues," said president and CEO Matt Badylak.

South Africa’s Gold Fields owns 50% of Asanko. Galiano is the operator of the mine, in west Ghana.
