Name: Darlot mine.

Location: The mine is located about 900 km north-east of Perth, in the highly endowed Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia.

Mine Owner/s: Darlot Mining Company.

Brief Description: Darlot is a gold mine wholly owned by Red 5 through its subsidiary Darlot Mining Company.

Brief History: Red 5 acquired Darlot in 2017. The mine has a long production history and has been in continuous operation for more than 30 years.

The mine was previously owned and operated by Sundowner Minerals, Forsayth, Plutonic Resources, Homestake Mining Company, Barrick Gold Corporation and Gold Fields.

Primary Metals/Minerals: Gold.

Secondary Metals/Minerals: None stated.

Geology/Mineralisation: The Darlot lodes are considered to be part of an Archean hydrothermal fault vein deposit, with characteristics – host rock-type and the nature of hydrothermal alteration – similar to those of other deposits within the Yilgarn Craton; however, it is atypical in being relatively flat-lying rather than steeply dipping. Felsic porphyries and lamprophyre intrusions are encountered throughout the deposit. The major host for gold mineralisation is the Mount Pickering dolerite.

Reserves: Total proven and probable reserves as at October 15, 2020, were estimated at 2.7-million tonnes grading 2.8 g/t gold.

Resources: Total measured, indicated and inferred resources as at October 15, 2020, were estimated at 11.8-million tonnes grading 3.4 g/t gold.

Mining Method: Openpit and underground. The principal mining method used for the underground operation is long-hole stoping, with cemented paste fill where required.

Major Infrastructure and Equipment: Ore from Darlot is processed at the 830 000 t/y carbon-in-pulp and carbon-in-leach gold processing plant located on site, which is operating at a throughput of one-million tonnes a year.

Prospects: Mining at Darlot’s new openpit at Great Western started in February 2021, with first delivery to the mill in March 2021.

Red 5 has several programmes under way to expand the mineral resources and reserves at the mine and increasing its mine life.
