PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Lithium developer Core Lithium has appointed Gareth Manderson as the company’s CEO, succeeding Stephen Biggins, who announces his resignation as MD in March this year.

Manderson, who has 28 years of experience in the mining and minerals sector, was most recently the GM of sustaining capital with major Rio Tinto, and has previously held various leadership roles within the diversified miner, including leading the company’s aluminium business in British Columbia.

Manderson will start his new role on August 8, and to ensure a smooth transition, Biggins will continue on as director until the changeover of leadership is complete.

Core chairperson Greg English said on Friday that Manderson’s experience in developing teams, delivering projects and safely operating mining and processing operations would make him the perfect fit for Core’s first CEO as the Finniss lithium project, in the Northern Territory, moves from construction to operation later this year.

“There are many synergies between Manderson’s previous senior roles in managing complex mine, miner processing, port, township and logistics operations during his tenure at Rio and the Finniss project, which is 25 km from the Darwin CBD and port,” said English.
