Connemara plans further drilling in Donegal
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Explorer Connemara Mining will initiate further drilling at its Inishowen project as part of its gold exploration programme in Donegal, Ireland.
The diamond drilling, which will start on September 25, is aimed at establishing if the gold-bearing veins discovered last year extend across the licence.
In April 2016, an initial discovery of 3.05 m grading 5.8 g/t of gold was made in hole three at 23.05 m. In June 2016, a further 643 m was drilled over four holes targeting the veins from the north drilling south. A high-grade zone was intercepted at 8.13 m at a steeper angle of 70 degrees grading 5.48 g/t at 4.82 m.
Initially, five holes are planned to test the geometry and extension of the gold-bearing veins. More mapping and sampling will be conducted over the wider area.
Other operations in neighbouring county Tyrone in similar geological settings include the operating Omagh gold mine of Galantas Gold and the significant gold reserve established by Dalradian Resources’ Curraghinalt project.
