Mobile crane hire company Johnson Crane Hire (JCH) says it is rated among the top mobile crane fleet solutions providers in Africa because of its business philosophy, SMART, which stands for safety, maintenance, availability, reliability and total cost effectiveness.

This is why the company has developed world-class workshop facilities, technical expertise and systems that have, in turn, earned the company a reputation for owning the most well-maintained lifting equipment in Africa, says JCH sales executive Peter Yaman.

“We provide cost-effective total lifting solutions that are suited to individual customer requirements. Operating large cranes is a specialised field that needs careful planning, which is why all our branches are equipped to undertake maintenance and our mechanics are capable of completing various levels of repair work.

“Major repair work is undertaken at the comprehensively equipped national workshop based in Germiston, Johannesburg,” Yaman explains.

He adds that, as JCH prioritises safety, all the company’s lifting equipment undergoes regular, proactive maintenance schedules and ongoing inspections by third-party inspectors.

“We are not prepared to compromise the safety of our employees and other on-site personnel by cutting corners on safety checks,” Yaman emphasises.

JCH has branches in Johannesburg and Vanderbijlpark, in Gauteng; Burgersfort and Lephalale,  and a recently established depot in Mokopane, in Limpopo; and Middelburg and Trichardt, in Mpumalanga.

The company also has two branches in the Western Cape, one in Cape Town and another in Saldanha; two in Kwazulu-Natal, in Durban and Richards Bay; a branch in the Free State, in Welkom; another in the North West, in Rustenburg; and in the Eastern Cape city of Port Elizabeth.

JCH also extends its services to Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and other Southern African countries on both an ad hoc and project basis.

“We have a track record in delivering appropriate solutions for the power, petrochemical, refinery, industrial, mining and civil infrastructure industries throughout Africa on a number of milestone projects,” Yaman boasts.

Training and Skills Development
JCH runs an in-house training facility in Vanderbijlpark, outside Johannesburg. The training centre is registered and has certified trainers, who offer theoretical and practical training.

“Safety is an integral part of our Transport and Education Training Authority-accredited coursework. Trainee operators spend six weeks at the training centre undertaking a training programme that has been developed by JCH and which exceeds the basic legislated requirements,” explains Yaman, adding that the training is complemented by practical exercises, which includes travelling on roads as well as assembling and stripping cranes.
