Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane, who has upset all stakeholders with his Mining Charter III, is facing a barrage of stakeholder resistance to his deleterious document. The Chamber of Mines has stopped unfettered Ministerial comment on Mining Charter III until a full bench of judges hears the case, and the National Union of Mineworkers is sufficiently upset about Mining Charter III to offer itself as a friend of the court. The African National Congress has urged the Minister to go back to the drawing board. The South African Communist Party has given Mining Charter III the negative treatment in Umsebenzi Online. The Minister was forced to leave through a back door after an Mpumalanga mining community refused to listen to him and the Bench Marks Foundation has condemned Mining Charter III as being more dangerous than an abandoned mine shaft. But, spurned at home, the Minister has been flying to Santiago, Perth and other foreign destinations to keep away from local wrath.
