Botswana Diamonds applies for 12 new exploration licences

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Botswana Diamonds on Thursday said it had applied for 12 new exploration licences after new technology revealed new exploration targets in the north-east of Botswana.

The company was currently finalising the legal details of a formal joint venture with the undisclosed owner – a major international diamond producer – of the applied analysis technology, Botswana Diamonds executive chairperson John Teeling said at the group’s annual general meeting.

Botswana Diamonds would undertake detailed ground prospecting once the exploration licences were obtained.

“The successful deployment of this technology has the potential to write a new chapter in diamond exploration in Africa,” he commented, adding that an agreement with the producer would establish Botswana Diamonds as a major player in the diamond market.
