JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Scandinavian-focused miner Berkut Minerals has received approval for the first of multiple applications lodged to expand its Gladhammar project area, in Sweden.

The granted and applied for licence areas now bring the Gladhammar and Tunaberg licence areas to 56 km2, through the addition of 36 km2, which cover interpreted highly-prospective quartzite contact, magnetic anomalies and historic workings.

Berkut on Friday said it had identified historical drilling and assay data from the Gladhammar and Tunaberg properties, which include 0.21% cobalt and up to 7.8% copper at Gladhammar, as well as 9.9% zinc and 2.3% lead at Tunaberg.

“This historic drilling was not targeted towards cobalt mineralisation and the Tunaberg drilling was not assayed for cobalt by previous workers,” it stated.

Further, the miner noted that reconnaissance mapping undertaken confirmed a strong association with magnetite-bearing quartzite and high-grade cobalt mineralisation. “This linear magnetic feature will provide a focus to Berkut’s exploration activities within the project area,” it added.
