Becker Mining South Africa, previously known as Walter Becker SA, is celebrating 50 years of business this year.

The family-owned group, which employs nearly 2 000 staff locally, into Africa and overseas, specialises in the design, manufacture and supply of energy distribution, automation, communication, transportation and roof support systems in underground mining infrastructure systems.

The group’s head office in Germany is supported by subsidiary companies in key mining countries around the globe, including South Africa, France, Poland, China, Australia, the US, Canada and Chile.

Becker’s equipment is manufactured by three wholly owned South African manufacturing companies – EMIS for electrical energy distribution systems; Bellambie Mining & Industrial for hoist rope attachments, roof support systems and lifting equipment and Becker Electronics for electronic automation and communication systems. Additional specialised product solutions and services are sourced from group operations abroad.

Becker Mining South Africa’s manufacturing companies – at the Alrode, Heidelberg, Randburg Chamdor and Welkom plants – are committed to the most stringent quality control procedures and meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 as registered within the Becker Mining Trade certification scheme.
Rigorous tests, which include the electrical, electronic, chemical and mechanical verification of materials, are performed throughout every production process to ensure standards conform to the expectations and demands of the global mining industry.

Key mining customers include Sasol, Anglo Platinum, Anglo Coal, Sibanye Gold and Northam, as well as Glencore, Anglo American and Gold Fields.
