TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – The CellCube vanadium flow energy-storage systems sold by TSX-V-listed American Vanadium in North America received Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 508A certification, which is considered the single-most-accepted product accreditation in the US and generally a prerequisite for permitting and insurance.

“Our customers rely on us for proven and safe products, and achieving UL certification is the highest industry validation of the quality and reliability of our CellCube energy-storage systems,” president and CEO Bill Radvak said in a statement this week.

He added that the UL certification was one of the important criteria in the permitting of new technologies for use in buildings and a significant step forward in the company’s upcoming installation at the headquarters of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, at 2 Broadway, in Manhattan, New York.

“With what we believe is the first UL certification of a flow battery, we are now able to singly pursue much of the behind-the-meter market which requires certification for permitting, insurance and finance,” Radvak explained.

UL was established in 1894 and is the world’s largest nonprofit product safety certification organisation, with global name recognition and acceptance. Products intended to be used in the workplace must be listed by a nationally recognised testing laboratory such as UL, which is accredited by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
