Alrosa's Vladivostok special-stone auction brings in $9m
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Diamond miner Alrosa has netted $9-million in the special-size rough diamond auction that was held at its branch in Vladivostok in late October.
The company sold 66 stones with a total weight of 1 084 ct. Alrosa said the most expensive diamond was a 40.47 ct stone that sold for more than $1-million.
The Vladivostok mine was established in 2016 to expand Alrosa’s presence in Asia-Pacific. Between September 2016 and October 2017, Alrosa held four auctions for special-size rough diamonds at the Far-Eastern platform and sold 4 708 ct of rough diamonds for $47-million.
In addition to special-size rough diamonds, the Alrosa branch in Vladivostok sells regular assortment gem-quality rough diamonds under 10.8 ct, industrial rough diamonds, and polished diamonds.
