With the acquisition of steel producer COMIR Industrial SA in November 2021, specialised importer and distributor of industrial and electronic products in Southern Africa, Actum Group, aims to expand its steel products range and become a valuable player in the steel processing industry.

As a specialised importer and distributor of industrial and electronic products Actum group decided to acquire COMIR Industrial SA because “COMIR Industrial SA is dedicated to the production and sale of all types and grades of steel and plastic strapping, and is a leader in end-of-line packaging solutions for the manufacturing industry”, says Actum Group joint CEO Kevin Klaff

Its capabilities also include a range of packaging equipment, tools and products such as a range of Columbia steel and plastic strapping tools from Italy, he adds. “With Actum Group already having BAND-IT as a division, it felt like a natural progression to acquire COMIR Industrial SA and expand into bigger production.”

Moreover, COMIR Industrial SA adds that the relationship with COMIR Italy is a resource and global access point owing to the fact that COMIR Italy has business relationships around the world, which Actum Group can make the most, gaining and using resources as well as knowledge.

While the steel industry has begun to stabilise amid the world’s learning how to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and its effects, there has been some uncertainty about the state of the steel industry in South Africa in the past year, says Klaff.

This is owing to the steel industry’s having had to deal with shortages of raw materials globally and increased pricing, in addition to soaring freight and shipping prices. Despite this, Actum Group has mitigated the challenges that it faced.

“Through favourable bulk buying and stockholding, as well as Actum Group’s strength in its management team, with strong accounting backgrounds that facilitate successful business practices, smart buying and integrated systems, the company is well equipped,” says Klaff.

The company has been proudly built by acquiring leading companies such as industrial equipment suppliers Actum Electronics, Dowson & Dobson Industrial, Banding & Identification Solutions Africa and, with the addition of COMIR Industrial SA, it intends to develop even more, says Klaff.

He highlights that the Actum Group is “fanatically focused” on quality and proudly represents only the best international and local brands, and will continue to do so.
